The village was the administrative centre of the former Vähänkyrö municipality. The distance to Tervajoki is about 6 km and to Merikaarto 10 km. The population is about 2000 inhabitants. The area is also home to businesses in various sectors and is a destination for commuters to Vaasa and neighbouring municipalities.
